Back on the horse, around the bend and back again. Something that I forgot and unfortunately have to now remember, taking breaks is for Suckas. I ate New York ya’ll! I did, and a lil bit of LA too! It was good to y’all. I’ve heard that confession is a freeing experience so I figured I have to confess my edible sins so I can move forward with no baggage.

So yes, I broke the rules and I’m paying for it now, I’ve been sluggish and not gym motivated. I didn’t only hang out with a plate of fried fish I kanoodled with all kinds of sinfully delicious and completely the anti anything that is good health good life. Oh my, the burrito, the chicken, the spaghetti and the ribs. Lort! What was I to do? I couldn’t help myself. Oh but I could had I only insisted my birthday taste buds retire from wilding me with ideas of New York slices and mid-night Shawarma food runs, I just couldn’t resist and I also ate a slice of chocolate cake and I ate 6 Oreo cookies.

Ok ok settle down or as one of my young ones would say, “summer donna”. So yes, I did, I enjoyed food for a week. Now of course I didn’t eat all of these things in the same day – most of my daily plan stayed in order, oh and I had an egg bacon and cheese poppy seed bagel. It was good too! So yes. (Clears throat) Yes most of my food regimen remained in tact with the majority of my food being roughage and fruit and of course let us not forget my famous trip to “Candle 79 truly a wonderful dining experience.

So that’s it – today I picked up where I left off, I went to the gym I packed my almonds and apples etc for the day and got to it. I unfortunately sucked at the gym today but it was still a win win. That elliptical and treadmill got my digestive track moving again and I was grateful. Yay Fiber. Lol. See you guys in a bit and THANK YOU for all of the birthday wishes.

Dream Live Thrive the Dherbs Battlefield: New York Nights 20 Pound Goals

I awoke in my Victorian styled room to fresh fruit; guava, pomegranate, oranges and bananas, plums, grapes and a few fruit I’d never seen before. It was a wonderful birthday morning and from the looks of the looks fruit bowl that was delivered it was going to be a sweet and adventurous birthday.

The Waldorf Astoria had been a dream of mine since I was a boy – and not simply from Eddie Murphy’s “Coming to America” which urbanized the “Astorian” Culture. But truly, I’d dreamt of the Grand Ball Room for some time not knowing that it would become a dream fulfilled. Waiting on the Lord was truly one of my better decisions; I was a guest at the Historic Waldorf that’s slept just about every President our young country has known and performed to a SOLD OUT standing room only aidiencce. What an honor it was to perform for the Honorable Shimon Peres @PresidentPeres and the fallen Heroes of the Israeli army. 

Another high light of my trip to New York was the personal introduction to Alan Menken that my friend Wendy Parr gave. She’s such a Rock Star person with an amazing gift. Boo can SANG. Alan whisked us on a parade through our childhood as he perused some of the songs that helped a lot of us want to sing and live the “Broadway” life. Mr. Menken is a Hero to some. I was beyond elated to be in the room let alone getting an introduction and vocal stamp of approval from Wendy. Alan was kind, open, charismatic and warm. He took time to share with me his personal encounters with Luther Vandross, who is one of my hero’s; I was grateful for that exchange. It’s hard to imagine a legend like him just being “real” but he was and he even got his amazing daughter Anna Rose (with her sangin self) to come up and sing as he accompanied. It was a wonderful birthday experience. After that I took to the chilly streets of New York for a brisk walk. It was cold the ground icy and it snowed a bit, but I didn’t care I was in the city that never sleeps and I was nowhere near tired.

From there I met a friend and traveled to the Museum of Modern Art – it was a wonderful time and the exhibits were interesting, unfortunately by then, my phone was dead so I couldn’t take any pictures, the memory however is fixed in my head. After a long day I retired to my room, instead of ordering some fancy “Its my birthday” type dinner I wanted what every other red blooded American tourist who only visits New York a few times a year wants … Pizza; a hot Slice, or three. Yeah that’s right damnit. I had three. And it was good, leave me alone I’ve already prayed! Lolol

The truth is New York was the breath of fresh air I’ve needed. I think we all have to step back and look at the work we’ve been doing, the energy we’ve been pouring out and take a glance at the results. I appreciated my trip because I’m closer to see the person I’ve been celebrating for years. That’s what this trip did for me. I’m thankful to God that while I was even at my heaviest I felt like the guy I’m becoming now. The thing now is jumping back in. You gotta jump back in. Advice I’m giving and taking. I feel like I honored my birthday and celebrated my weight loss win, It’s now time to set new goals.

Shedding the excess weight, sculpting and shaping. I have news for you world. I’m not done yet. I’m putting my best foot forward and rolling with the plan. Lose That Weight. And when I saw the picture in W magazine I felt it

instantly and then said it out loud “Lord, I’d like to spend my birthday in New York this year … and I’d like for someone else to pay for it. Lol” And with that it was done. I didn’t think about it twice, in my mind it was decided. It was the Mark hotel that inspired such an audacious request of the Maker. But I was certain that It would be Boss and Grand. The experience I mean, and that is an understatement of what I actually experienced. There were Commanders and Heroes, Super Models and Actresses, Super Star Singers and get this… a former President and wait for it… Me!

The truth is I did like most suffer a bit of doubt the first time I recollect hearing the voice of God for my own life. It was a dream, one that seemed far too real, so much so that I chose to scoff at it – not doubting God but more or less discrediting myself. So there I was, strolling along life when LIFE happened to me. I say most often, “Make Life Happen or Life will Happen to You!!! I believe this incredibly; I’m grateful that what happened to me was on the up side of things.

This leads me to that ever present scripture to some cliché to others “your gift will make room for you” I can attest that it can and it will if you are in alignment and present. I had gotten a call form a producer I worked with several years ago. We did a show at the Ford Amphitheater; Me, MC Lyte and Macy Gray, we were supporting the Keshet Chaim Dance Team and Lula Washington Dance Theater. I had such an amazing time on that show. Well, on the other end of the line was my angel inviting me to New York City to Perform at the 1^st Annual Times of Israel Gala being hosted at the Waldorf Astoria on Park Avenue.

I asked her when was the event, she told me February 15, 2015. I told her of the conversation I’d had with God, she agreed that her call was a sign – without much negotiation we came to an agreement and the contract was signed. 

Sometimes you have to put your blindfold on and trust that God the universe intends good for you. Trust that there is a plan much bigger willed fulfill the dreams you’ve had. The Waldorf Astoria, Grand Ball Room… an even Bigger Dream than staying at the Mark Hotel for my birthday. God can and will out do anything you’ve done well. The A List line up included supermodel Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Multo Platinum sellig Miri Miseka, Robert Kraft (Owner NE Patriots), Actress Noah Tishby and American Born Israeli Basketball Star Derrick Sharp and on the top of the sundae is of course the Honorable Shimon Peres, former President of Israel.

And if it weren’t enough that I would be experiencing their presence I was elated to accept the invitation to both open and close the event. The 1^st Annual Times of Israel Gala in the Grand Ball Room of the Waldorf Astoria; are you kidding me, hell yeah I said Yes!

The flight was cool, I experienced a first on it that was priceless, would have thought I won the lottery when that seatbelt closed without a hitch. After a seamless flight I arrived to JFK International Airport in one solid very cold piece. Though my car was late I still had a chilly glow. I was feeling optimistic, hopeful even-just down right good. Yeah, I was feeling good. That seatbelt started it all off well for me. Once I made it to the hotel it was off to the 2015 All Star Breakfast, which was help at my hotel, thankfully. The wind-chill made the not so bothersome snow a major iceberg concern when I was outside. But I was welcomed with Top service not quite White Glove but very close to it.

My room was gorgeous and I was ready for a damn good time. So here’s my first Food alert… Who goes to New York and doesn’t eat Pizza is a prude. And I’m no prude so a eaten I had to do. I won’t lie, because my birthday was in tow I did take liberties I wouldn’t advise anyone else to take. I am in need of a Dherbs.com Full Body Cleanse like never before. Baby if it was cooked I ate it! Pizza, Chicken, Lamb and it was good too. However I’d be remised to no t also talk about the incredible Candle 79 on Lexington and 79^th street http://www.candle79.com. Help your life one time and almost kill ya self. Lol. I mean really, the food was Incredible and good and everything I had no business eating. Again the Birthday pass strikes again.

Never fear however its clear that working is awesome, the key to weight loss management is all in what you choose to eat. I of course worked out and even conquered new goals. I won’t lie however; I spent most of this trip enjoying the fact that I’m alive and ready to Live. I saw the difference in my clothing and my confidence. It all felt empowering and steadying, I needed the win to know that its ok to keep going and that sometimes you gotta lay back and live a little. God took care of me using the hands and hearts of some amazing people over the past few days. Ahh, what joy it is to know that I’m his and he loves me.

But yeah, while I was there I played in the snow, met Thee Alan Menken (http://www.alanmenken.com writer of my entire childhood songbook), sang for a President Hon Shimon Peres, Sang a Duet with an International Pop Star Miri Miseka, Sold Out the Grand Ball Room at the Waldorf Astoria and wait for it…  Put on a seatbelt on an airplane in coach. Child Yes, that seatbelt was the one tho. Lol.
